Work in progress, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Dedicated 1982, Washington, DC Pictured: Candace McKee and Bryan Carter
In 1981 a great opportunity presented itself to an engineer turned glass artist in Memphis, Tennessee. While working as Manager of Research & Development for Binswanger Glass Co., Bryan Carter developed, and refined a high - resolution method for the sandblast etching of glass. Primarily intended to decorate thick glass, as used in furniture and architectural applications, the process was to find a very different and life touching use. Bryan used this special process to etch the 58,000 names in the 144 granite panels of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
In 1987 Bryan founded Glassical, Inc. with a team of skilled craftsmen that had worked together for several years. Glassical and its craftsmen have continued to grow by maintaining their focus on quality and creativity. Still growing in our 16th year, Glassical, Inc. offers both traditional glass products and some very far out glass table bases and tabletops, etched room screens, decorator accessories, recognition items, countertops, and even fine glassware repair. Working in glass from 1/8" to 1" thick and stocking tabletops up to 1" x 88" x 130", there is a lot going on at Glassical.
